I feel a bit out of touch - what is the bike union working on these days?
- In partnership with http://torontocat.ca, and our local councillor, we are working on a pilot in ward 20 to create additional bike parking capacity on-street through the re-purposing of spots currently designated for cars - the success of this pilot should help spread seasonal off-sidewalk parking to busy cycling destinations all over Toronto.
- We have a small team that has recently begun lobbying for a safe way for cyclists to cross the 401.
- The bike union is developing a series of downloadable materials about the following: Safe Riding, Commuter Tips, Cycling & the Law, Sharing the Road (insight into cyclist behaviours and habits for drivers), & Cycling With Your Family.
- We will be ensuring that cyclists' needs are considered as part of all current and upcoming Transit City Environmental Assessments.
- Through our partnership with http://CultureLink.net, we will soon launch our Newcomer Cycling Outreach poster campaign, and the production of the Toronto Cyclists Handbook.
- We will continue to help inform additions to the city's proposed bikeway network by engaging cyclists across the city to provide feedback for improvements in their neighbourhoods.
- The bike union is ensuring that the needs of cyclists are considered in city-building & redesign projects (ex: Jarvis St.) throughout the city.
- We are continuing to grow our new organisation into one with long-term financial stability and political strength.
- And the list goes on...
Why haven't I heard anything from you since I signed up?
- We send almost all of our communications to you via emailed newsletters and action alerts, as well as occasional notes via our Facebook and Twitter groups. If you haven't heard from us electronically, you may have selected the 'no email' option when you first joined online.
- If you want to stay in touch and receive timely updates about what we are working on, and how you can add your voice to important cycling infrastructure decisions, please be sure to opt-in for electronic communication when you renew your membership via http://bikeunion.to/join.
I have suggestions for improvements along my regular cycling routes - who should I talk to?
- The bike union is your personal link to all things cycling infrastructure. We have the ear of City staff and many Councillors. We are always reachable via info [at] bikeunion.to and can help you connect with the right people, or champion your ideas for you.
- Our website also lists all the contact numbers you need for reporting issues on the road, requesting bike parking, etc… Visit http://bikeunion.to/mycity
How can I get more involved with the bike union?
- We are currently seeking individuals interested in being involved in the governance of the bike union at the Board level and/or in the development and implementation of bike union team initiatives.
- From fundraising, events and ride coordination, to campaign and policy development, we'd love to have you on the team! Together we can help shape Toronto's cycling future - expressions of interest can be sent to yvonne [at] bikeunion.to
