Getting Started

How do I create a campaign page?

1) Register Now or Login.
If you already have a bike union user account, please login before creating a campaign page. If you are unsure whether or not you already have a bike union user account, register and you'll be alerted based on your email address.  If you already have an account but forget your password, click here to request a new password. Once you have filled in all of the required information in the campaign page form, you'll receive a message with a temporary password. Use this to login and edit your campaign page.

2) Create a campaign page.
After logging in, upload a picture, choose a clever title, describe why the bike union is important to you and why your friends, family and colleagues should join.

3) Get the Word out!
When you have finished personalizing your campaign page, send/share with your friends, family and colleagues asking them to join!  We suggest spreading the word through your personal email or over Facebook and Twitter.

Can't find the URL to your campaign page?

Once your campaign page has been approved, you'll receive an email with a link to your page.  The link has 2 functions.  When you're logged into the website as a bike union user, this link will appear as your "Personal Fundraiser View."  When not logged in, the link will appear as everyone else sees it: as your personal campaign page.  Use this link to publicize your campaign.

You can also find the link to your campaign page on your User Page the moment you login.

Who should I send my campaign page to?

When thinking about who you might ask to become a member, think broadly.  Your friends, family and colleagues who ride bicycles are great first steps in your approach.  But don't forget about friends, family and colleagues who may not ride bicycles, but who are close to people that do.  Creating safer places for people on bikes not only increases the safety of cyclists, but of other road users too.  If you're feeling really ambitious, send your campaign page to your local Councillor, MPP or MP!

The easiest way to publicize your campaign is by emailing the link to your page through your email, on Facebook or through Twitter.

Why should people join the bike union?

You had your own reasons for joining the bike union.  Maybe you want to see bike lanes across Toronto. Or maybe you wanted discounts at your favourite bike shops and clothing retailers.  Whatever your personal reason, read through the following when framing why people should join:

- The Toronto Cyclists Union is the city's only member-based cycling advocacy organization.  Our influence grows at City Hall by the number of people we represent. With over 1,400 members, the bike union wants to grow to 2,500 members by early 2012.

- Since 2008, the bike union has worked hard to create safer streets throughout Toronto.  Big wins credited to the bike union include the Annette Street bike lane, the Jarvis Street bike lane and saving the BIXI program.

- Bike union membership has its benefits.  All bike union members receive a member card good for discounts at bike shops, clothing retailers, magazines and car sharing programs.  Click here to learn more: http://bikeunion.to/join/benefits
