Bike Winter 2012

It’s easy to stay in the saddle year round! Especially with the camaraderie of other riders and a fun winter cycling event, there’s no reason to put your bike in the basement when winter hits.

Whether you are looking for advice on keeping your extremities warm, or something to do on a blustery Thursday night, Bike Winter 2012 can help you enjoy your bike as an all weather option to get around the City.

Be Bike Savvy

Can Toronto afford bike lanes? How do bike lanes impact businesses? Shouldn't cyclists be licensed?

Explore the big issues surrounding cycling in Toronto in our new Be Bike Savvy section. We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to dispel some of the misinformation around cycling. Read up on all the issues and be ready to win skeptics over at the water cooler or your next cocktail party!

Easy Riding on Richmond/Adelaide

In 2010, Toronto had the most car-bike collisions of any major Canadian city. This is unacceptable, which is why we are pushing the City of Toronto to catch up to other major cities by installing protected bike lanes to increase the safety of cyclists. Protected bike lanes on Richmond/Adelaide Streets were proposed in the bike plan ten years ago. We want to make this a reality today.

We have developed a resource page on protected bike lanes. We encourage you to learn about these life-saving improvements to our streets. Let's make Toronto a better place to ride!

Save Jarvis!

UPDATE: City Council voted to remove the Jarvis Street bike lanes in 2012.

And, read our response on the recent bike vote at City Council here.

1,000 cyclists on Jarvis Street depend on these bike lanes for safety. There is simply no justification for removing them. The street is working fine for everyone.

It's time Toronto cyclists stand up to defend our public safety. Together, we can win this.

Here's how.

We Want More BIXI!

Do you want more BIXI?

BIXI is Toronto's popular public bike system. Unfortunately, the system only covers a very small area in the downtown core. We want to change this. Given the high level of ridership and demand at the edges of the service area, the Toronto Cyclists Union wants to see an expanded BIXI program of 3,000 bicycles serving more Torontonians across a larger service area.

Sign our petition if you support a BIXI Toronto Expansion!

The Toronto Cyclists Union provides a strong, unified voice for Toronto cyclists.

We are a membership-based organization advocating for the rights of cyclists of all ages and from all parts of Toronto. Cyclists like you: Join us to help strengthen our collective voice.
