Bike union submits intersection redesign suggestions for Bay & Front to PWIC

Submitted by yvonne on 12 February, 2010 - 15:00

Based on the anticipation of the long awaited bike lanes on Bay St., and the issues highlighted in Christopher Hume's recent article 'Anatomy of a Toronto Street Corner', the Toronto Cyclists Union this week submitted the attached letter to the Public Works and Infratructure Committee (PWIC) for their review. See below for our submission, and a copy of Hume's piece from the Star.

In the letter we list some of the concerns that the current design and use patterns cause for both cyclists and pedestrians, and offer a number of suggested improvements.

These suggested modifications will help to prioritize the safe passage
of the thousands of pedestrians, and cyclists, that move through the
intersection daily, and will improve the safety of the forthcoming bike
lanes.

Additionally, the implementation of a Pedestrian Scramble, as per Yonge & Dundas, could be another excellent improvement.

Have any thoughts on other changes that could help improve this intersection?
